PodGrabber Podcast Inventory Candidate Report
Prepared: September 4, 2026 Current inventory: 196 podcast records Inventory goal: approximately 10 podcasts per category, with a maximum of 15 per category Purpose: Working shortlist of podcasts to review before adding or replacing feeds in PodGrabber.
Executive Summary
PodGrabber is already close to its desired overall size, so additions should be selective rather than aimed at making every category mathematically equal.
The current inventory is strongest in Cybersecurity (22), Comedy (16), Investing (13), Paranormal (12), Wellness (12), True Crime (11), and Culture (10). The best opportunities for new inventory are Science, Technology News, Software Development, News, Military, Spy, Sports, and Celebrity Interviews.
Because PodGrabber is already at 196 records, the recommended approach is:
- Fill vacancies created when existing podcasts stop production.
- Prefer categories below 10.
- Give preference to podcasts with reliable public RSS feeds.
- Prefer active shows with frequent or predictable releases.
- Favor shows that produce episodes useful to PodGrabber's topic-discovery system.
- Avoid expanding Investing, Comedy, Paranormal, Wellness, True Crime, or Cybersecurity unless an existing feed is removed.
- Gradually prune Cybersecurity and Comedy toward the 15-podcast ceiling.

1. Science
Current inventory: 2 Target: 10 Recommendation: Highest-priority category for expansion
Current PodGrabber Science inventory is unusually thin. Science also intersects strongly with existing PodGrabber topics such as AI, space, medicine, climate, technology, data centers, and emerging research.
Candidate: Nature Podcast — A+
Publisher: Nature / Springer Nature Recommended category: Science
Nature's podcast operation is extremely active. Nature's 2026 podcast archive contained dozens of episodes by late summer, including genetics, medicine, astronomy, climate, biology, AI research, archaeology and other fields.
Recent publishing was confirmed through September 2026.
Why add it
- Prestigious scientific publisher.
- Broad subject range.
- Frequent releases.
- Excellent archive value.
- Many episodes should match PodGrabber topic metadata.
- Complements rather than duplicates Science Magazine Podcast.
Review: Strong recommendation.

Candidate: Science Friday — A+
Recommended category: Science
Science Friday combines science reporting, interviews and explanatory programming. It covers space, biology, medicine, physics, technology, engineering and environmental science.
The show remains active in 2026 and advertises a daily podcast in addition to its broadcast programming.
Why add it
- Extremely recognizable science brand.
- Large archive.
- Accessible to non-specialists.
- Frequent updates.
- Broad enough to serve as a cornerstone Science feed.
Review: Strong recommendation.
Sources:
Candidate: Science Quickly — A+
Publisher: Scientific American Recommended category: Science
Scientific American describes the show as covering fresh discoveries and cutting-edge science stories. It was publishing multiple episodes per week in August 2026.
Why add it
- Strong science brand.
- Shorter and more frequent than many science podcasts.
- Good complement to Nature and Science Magazine.
- Excellent source for topical discovery.
Review: Strong recommendation.
Source:
Additional Science candidates to review
- Quanta Science Podcast — mathematics, physics, computer science and biology.
- The Infinite Monkey Cage — science discussion with humor.
- Short Wave — short-form science news and explanations.
- Ologies with Alie Ward — accessible specialist interviews.
- StarTalk Radio — science/space with a popular-audience format.
Strategy: PodGrabber does not need to jump from 2 to 10 immediately. Nature Podcast, Science Friday and Science Quickly would bring the category to five with three exceptionally strong feeds.
2. Software Development
Current inventory: 8 Target: 10 Immediate need: 2
Existing inventory already includes Software Engineering Daily, Software Engineering Radio, The Cloudcast, Signals and Threads, Mostly Technical and other development-oriented shows. Therefore new additions should contribute something different.
Candidate: The Stack Overflow Podcast — A+
Recommended category: Software-Development
This is probably my strongest software-development candidate.
The podcast was publishing actively through September 2026. Recent subjects included Java, PHP, AI agents, Kubernetes, DNS, infrastructure-as-code, JavaScript, TypeScript, open source, SRE, GitHub Copilot and full-stack development.
Why add it
- Direct fit with PodGrabber's developer audience.
- Extremely current coverage of AI-assisted software development.
- Strong brand recognition among programmers.
- Frequent releases.
- Wide technology stack.
- Excellent topic metadata potential.
Review: Add to the short list immediately.
Source:
Candidate: The Changelog — A
Recommended category: Software-Development
The Changelog focuses heavily on open source, software engineering, programming languages, infrastructure and developer tools.
Why add it
- Strong open-source identity.
- More developer-community oriented than Software Engineering Daily.
- Natural PodGrabber audience fit.
- Long-running archive.
Review: Strong candidate for the second Software Development opening.
Source:
Candidate: Syntax — A-
Recommended category: Software-Development
Web-development-oriented show covering JavaScript, TypeScript, frameworks, tooling, CSS, back-end development and the changing developer ecosystem.
Why consider it
PodGrabber already has broad engineering shows. Syntax would strengthen practical web development specifically.
Source:
Software Development recommendation
If only two slots are available:
- The Stack Overflow Podcast
- The Changelog
Keep Syntax as the first alternate.
3. Technology News
Current inventory: 7 Target: 10 Need: 3
Existing inventory includes Bloomberg Technology, WSJ Tech News Briefing, This Week in Tech, Windows Weekly, Podcasting 2.0 and Podnews Weekly Review.
Candidate: The Vergecast — A+
Publisher: The Verge Recommended category: Technology News
The Vergecast remains highly active in September 2026 and covers AI, Apple, consumer electronics, major technology companies, devices, internet platforms and technology policy.
Why add it
- Excellent general technology-news coverage.
- Strong AI coverage.
- Complements TWiT rather than replacing it.
- Frequent topical episodes.
- Strong brand recognition.
Review: Best Technology News candidate.
Source:
Candidate: MacBreak Weekly — A
Publisher: TWiT Recommended category: Technology News
PodGrabber already carries This Week in Tech and Windows Weekly, making MacBreak Weekly a natural extension of the existing TWiT lineup.
The show remained active in 2026 with weekly Apple coverage.
Why add it
- Fills an Apple-specific hole.
- Reliable weekly format.
- Long-running established show.
- Existing PodGrabber audience likely overlaps strongly.
Review: Strong candidate if Apple coverage is desirable.
Source:
Candidate: Decoder with Nilay Patel — A-
Publisher: The Verge Recommended category: Technology News or Business
CEO/executive interviews centered on technology companies, platforms, management and policy.
Why consider it
This could bridge Technology News, Business and Talk-Interviews without being another general tech-news recap.
Source:
4. News
Current inventory: 8 Target: 10 Need: 2
The most useful additions here are genuinely frequent news feeds rather than more political opinion shows.
Candidate: Reuters news podcast — A+
Recommended category: News
Reuters was publishing current news podcast episodes in September 2026 covering international conflict, U.S. news, economics, technology and breaking developments.
Why add it
- Reuters reporting.
- International scope.
- Breaking-news orientation.
- Helps distinguish
Newsfrom PodGrabber'sOpinioncategory. - High topical freshness.
Review: Highest-priority News candidate.
Source:
Candidate: FT News Briefing — A+
Publisher: Financial Times Recommended category: News
The FT describes this as a weekday-morning rundown of important global business stories. It was publishing current episodes on September 4, 2026.
Why add it
- Daily weekday schedule.
- Global rather than purely U.S. political.
- Strong economics/business component.
- Useful crossover with Investing and Business topics.
- Usually concise.
Review: Excellent candidate.
Source:
Candidate: NPR Up First — A-
Recommended category: News
Short morning news briefing covering major U.S. and international stories.
Why consider it
It would give PodGrabber another compact daily-news product instead of a long-form commentary show.
Source:
News recommendation
For exactly two openings:
- Reuters
- FT News Briefing
That combination would materially strengthen actual daily/breaking news without adding another ideological talk program.
5. Military
Current inventory: 7 Target: 10 Need: 3
Current PodGrabber inventory already has veteran/personality content. New additions should emphasize current defense affairs, military technology and strategy.
Candidate: War on the Rocks — A+
Recommended category: Military
War on the Rocks was publishing actively in August 2026. Recent subjects included Ukraine, Iran, Army Special Operations, Marine Corps drone training, China/Taiwan, SOUTHCOM and the People's Liberation Army.
Why add it
- Excellent current military-strategy coverage.
- Strong Indo-Pacific/China component.
- Defense technology.
- Active-duty and national-security relevance.
- Different from personality/veteran interview podcasts.
Review: Best Military candidate.
Source:
Candidate: Defense One Radio — A
Recommended category: Military
Defense One Radio focuses on defense policy, military technology, personnel and the defense industry.
Why add it
- Professional defense-news orientation.
- Complements Modern War Institute.
- Strong defense-industry angle.
Caution: Publishing appeared less frequent in 2026 than some alternatives. Confirm current feed cadence before adding.
Source:
Candidate: The Spear — A-
Recommended category: Military
Modern War Institute production focused on first-person accounts and analysis of combat.
Why consider it
It adds a different dimension from strategic-policy shows while remaining professionally military-oriented.
Source:
6. Spy / Intelligence
Current inventory: 7 Target: 10 Need: 3
This category is already unusually good. PodGrabber has SpyCast, True Spies, SpyTalk, Grey Dynamics, The Rest Is Classified, Everyday Espionage and Dead Drop.
Therefore additions should be selective.
Candidate: The Cipher Brief podcast programming — A-
Recommended category: Spy
The Cipher Brief concentrates on intelligence, national security and current geopolitical threats.
Why consider it
- Contemporary intelligence focus.
- National-security professionals.
- Complements historical espionage programming.
Source:
Candidate: Intelligence Matters / successor intelligence programming — Review
The Intelligence Matters brand has historically been a high-quality intelligence interview format.
Important: Verify current production status and RSS availability before adding. Do not add an inactive legacy feed merely to reach the category target.
Recommendation for Spy
I would not force this category to 10 unless the candidates are excellent. The seven existing shows already provide unusually strong coverage. Quality is more important than hitting the numerical target.
7. Sports
Current inventory: 6 Target: 10 Need: 4
PodGrabber already has Pardon My Take, Bill Simmons, Dan Patrick, Jim Rome, New Heights and Games with Names. That is a personality-heavy lineup.
New additions should diversify sports coverage.
Candidate: ESPN Daily — A
Recommended category: Sports
Daily story-driven sports journalism.
Why add it
- Adds news/reporting rather than another personality show.
- Multi-sport.
- Strong recognizable brand.
- Frequent episodes.
Source:
Candidate: The Ryen Russillo Show — A
Recommended category: Sports
Strong NBA/NFL analysis with interviews and sports commentary.
Why add it
- Complements Bill Simmons.
- Strong analysis component.
- Established audience.
Source:
Candidate: Men in Blazers — A-
Recommended category: Sports
Soccer-focused programming.
Why add it
PodGrabber's existing Sports lineup is heavily U.S.-sports oriented. Soccer would diversify the category considerably.
Source:
Candidate: No Dunks — B+
Recommended category: Sports
Basketball-focused daily/near-daily discussion.
Why consider it
Useful if PodGrabber wants dedicated NBA coverage rather than another broad sports show.
8. Business
Current inventory: 9 Target: 10 Need: 1
This category should receive only one exceptional addition.
Candidate: Acquired — A+
Recommended category: Business
Acquired produces deeply researched histories of major companies and the strategies that built them. 2026 episodes included Disney and Vanguard.
Why add it
- Exceptional evergreen archive.
- Different from existing founder/interview podcasts.
- Strong overlap with investing and technology.
- Major companies generate useful PodGrabber topic matches.
- High-value long-form content.
Review: My preferred Business addition.
Source:
9. Investing
Current inventory: 13 Target: 10; maximum: 15
No expansion is necessary, but one candidate is strong enough to keep on the replacement list.
Candidate: Odd Lots — A+ replacement candidate
Publisher: Bloomberg Recommended category: Investing
Odd Lots covers markets, economics, finance, commodities, technology, energy and unusual market structures.
Why keep it on the bench
- Excellent crossover with PodGrabber topics.
- More analytical than stock-picking oriented.
- Frequent episodes.
- Particularly useful for AI, semiconductors, data centers, energy and macroeconomic subjects.
Recommendation: Do not increase Investing simply to add it. Add Odd Lots when a weaker Investing feed stops production or is removed.
RSS discovered during research:

10. Celebrity Interviews
Current inventory: 6 Target: 10 Need: 4
This category overlaps heavily with Talk-Interviews and Comedy, so additions should be recognizable and clearly celebrity-oriented.
Candidates to review
WTF with Marc Maron — A-
Long-form actor, comedian, musician and cultural-figure interviews.
Armchair Expert — A-
Celebrity and expert interviews with a large archive.
Literally! With Rob Lowe — B+
Strong celebrity-interview identity.
Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend — A
Celebrity interviews with comedy crossover.
Recommendation: Verify each feed's current 2026 production and RSS accessibility before adding. Because of overlap with Comedy and Talk-Interviews, two additions may be sufficient even though the category is below 10.
11. History
Current inventory: 8 Target: 10 Need: 2
Candidate: Dan Carlin's Hardcore History — A
Extremely strong archive and major brand recognition.
Caution: Low publishing frequency. This is an archive-value addition rather than a fresh-content addition.
Source:
Candidate: Stuff You Missed in History Class — A-
Very large archive and frequent production covering a wide variety of historical subjects.
Review: Good complement to PodGrabber's more war/history-heavy inventory.
12. Web Marketing / SEO
Current inventory: 7 Target: 10 Need: 3
Existing inventory is already heavily SEO-oriented. Future additions should broaden into analytics, content strategy, digital advertising or practical web marketing rather than adding three more SEO shows.
Candidates to investigate
- Marketing Against the Grain
- Everyone Hates Marketers
- Perpetual Traffic
- Search Engine Journal Show
Recommendation: Prioritize one broader digital-marketing show before another pure SEO podcast.
13. Travel
Current inventory: 1 Target: nominally 10
Rick Steves is a very strong anchor, but filling nine Travel slots would consume too much of PodGrabber's limited inventory.
Candidates to review
- Amateur Traveler
- Zero To Travel
- Travel with Jason Moore / Zero To Travel ecosystem
- Women Who Travel
- Travel Tales by AFAR
Recommendation: Eventually grow Travel to 3–5, not necessarily 10.
14. Education
Current inventory: 1
Candidates to review
- The Cult of Pedagogy Podcast
- Teaching in Higher Ed
- The EdSurge Podcast
- The Knowledge Project — could alternatively fit Business/Talk-Interviews
Recommendation: Grow cautiously. Education probably does not need 10 feeds unless PodGrabber sees meaningful traffic in the category.
15. Christian Faith
Current inventory: 1
This is another category where forcing the inventory to 10 could use too many scarce slots.
Candidates to review
- BibleProject Podcast
- The Bible for Normal People
- Ask Pastor John
- Unbelievable?
The goal should be diversity of format rather than ten versions of the same type of religious discussion.
Proposed PodGrabber Addition Queue
If vacancies become available, this is the order I would currently use.
| Rank | Podcast | Category | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nature Podcast | Science | A+ |
| 2 | The Stack Overflow Podcast | Software-Development | A+ |
| 3 | Reuters news podcast | News | A+ |
| 4 | Science Friday | Science | A+ |
| 5 | The Vergecast | Technology News | A+ |
| 6 | War on the Rocks | Military | A+ |
| 7 | FT News Briefing | News | A+ |
| 8 | Science Quickly | Science | A+ |
| 9 | Acquired | Business | A+ |
| 10 | The Changelog | Software-Development | A |
| 11 | ESPN Daily | Sports | A |
| 12 | MacBreak Weekly | Technology News | A |
| 13 | The Ryen Russillo Show | Sports | A |
| 14 | Men in Blazers | Sports | A- |
| 15 | Defense One Radio | Military | A- |
Replacement-only bench
These are excellent candidates, but their likely categories are already sufficiently stocked:
| Podcast | Category | Reason to Hold |
|---|---|---|
| Odd Lots | Investing | Investing already has 13 |
| Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend | Celebrity-Interviews / Comedy | Comedy is already over ceiling |
| Hardcore History | History | Excellent archive, but very low publishing frequency |
| Decoder | Technology News / Business | Strong candidate but lower immediate need than Vergecast |
| Syntax | Software-Development | Excellent alternate if another development feed stops |
Recommended First Wave
If PodGrabber wanted to add or replace five podcasts immediately, I would start with:
- Nature Podcast → Science
- The Stack Overflow Podcast → Software-Development
- Reuters news podcast → News
- The Vergecast → Technology News
- War on the Rocks → Military
That selection adds five substantially different content streams and improves five categories simultaneously.
If only two replacement slots are currently open, my preferred pair would be:
- Nature Podcast
- The Stack Overflow Podcast
If the two discontinued podcasts specifically need same-category replacements, use the category-specific rankings above instead.
Inventory Management Recommendation
PodGrabber's 10 ideal / 15 maximum policy works well as a guideline, but it should not be an absolute quota.
A practical model would be:
- 8–12: ideal operating range for major categories.
- 5–7: acceptable for specialized categories.
- 3–5: acceptable for narrow/niche categories.
- 13–15: allow only when the category is particularly important to PodGrabber.
- >15: review for pruning.
- Stopped production: first candidates for removal.
- Broken/unreliable RSS: remove unless archive value justifies retention.
- Duplicate editorial coverage: prefer the stronger/more active feed.
Under that model, Cybersecurity (22) and Comedy (16) should gradually shrink, while Science (2) deserves the most aggressive expansion.

Research Notes
This report was prepared from the 196-record PodGrabber JSON inventory supplied on September 4, 2026 and current web research conducted the same day.
Current activity was specifically confirmed during research for several high-priority candidates:
- Nature Podcast — active through September 2026.
- Science Friday — active in August/September 2026.
- Science Quickly — active in August 2026.
- Stack Overflow Podcast — active through September 3, 2026.
- The Vergecast — active September 2026.
- Reuters podcast programming — active September 2026.
- FT News Briefing — active September 4, 2026.
- War on the Rocks — active throughout summer 2026.
- Defense One Radio — 2026 episodes confirmed, but cadence should be checked.
- MacBreak Weekly — active in 2026.
- Acquired — 2026 episodes confirmed.
- Odd Lots — active feed and RSS availability confirmed.
Candidates in the secondary "review" lists have not all received the same level of feed-by-feed validation. They should therefore be treated as research leads rather than approved additions.
Working Decision Legend
- A+ — investigate first; unusually strong PodGrabber fit.
- A — strong addition candidate.
- A- — good candidate with a minor overlap/cadence concern.
- B+ — useful candidate but not worth consuming a scarce slot without further review.
- Review — promising lead requiring production/RSS verification.
Prepared as a working PodGrabber inventory-planning document. Candidate status should be rechecked immediately before modifying the production podcast inventory.
